About the1shanti
One of hip-hop's young legends, the1shanti, is making noise with a new, self-titled sophomore release on 5G/Flatbush Junction/Rawkus Records. In this collection of 10 tracks, the1shanti pays tribute to his love for hip-hop with classic flows and lyrics that display his expanding world view.
NEW YORK, NY – Hip-hop pioneer the1shanti's self-titled sophomore album, released on Flatbush Junction/Rawkus 50, is now available through www.the1shanti.com, the1shanti's official myspace site (www.myspace.com/the1shanti), iTunes and all major digital download sites.
With this new soulful second release, the1shanti eloquently explores hip-hop's cultural heritage, displaying jaw-dropping versatility and a deep-rooted historical perspective. The style of the 10 tracks, in composition, flow, and subject matter, are stripped down to focus on the tenets of classic hip hop songs. After relentlessly touring the world for the past decade, in this album, the1shanti paints sonic portraits with brush strokes colored by stories from the streets of Brooklyn to the screens of Bombay.
Recorded and produced by J.J. Brown and Dan Maier of 5G Productions (Gym Class Heroes, Hall and Oates), the1shanti succeeds in delivering what the artist considers to be "honest and universal songs for everyday people." Additional production is provided by newcomers Nawfcyde and Resk.
Since hip hop's godfather Afrika Bambaataa dubbed the1shanti "India Bambaataa" for helping popularize the artform in South Asia, the1shanti says he feels a renewed sense of responsibility to advance the genre. "With Bam's blessing, I feel a reinvigorated dedication to my art," he said. "I hope this new album reflects my passion for hip hop and inspires new artists."
the1shanti's self-titled sophomore release is currently avaiable via 5G/Flatbush Juction/Rawkus 50.
